THE SLEEPING GIANT AWOKE 69 YEARS AGO TODAY!

Here  in Texas we have a slogan that you might have heard a few times,"Don't Mess with Texas", this is of course the cleverly coined slogan that is aimed at persuading those who contemplate polluting the Lone Star State to think twice before they throw that Coke can out the window of their vehicle. It has aided in creating the legend of the Lone Star State, and rightly so, as a place that doesn't  take serious matters lightly. But on this day another Lone Star slogan you might recall, "Remember the Alamo" might be more appropriate because it parallels the cry across America on this December day 69 years ago. While legendary slogans or statements can be professed and either backed up or stated without backing, there is not doubt that the statement "We have awoken a sleeping giant" was one of the truest assembly of words ever professed by mankind. This is the day that lived in Infamy,December 07, 1941, millions of Americans realized that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor and America, as well as, freedom had been aggressively attacked.

We remember this day and think about those brave Americans that lost their lives at Pearl Harbor. We thank God for those brave Americans who heard the Giant's alarm clock that day and followed through with winning the freedom, not only those who joined the service, but also those who supported war efforts. The G.I. Joe's,  the Rosies, the elder generations that tilled the Victory Gardens and the children who helped find materials during the scrap drives Etc. One of the best examples we have here at the VintageFans.com archives are from The Robbins and Myers Company newsletters keeping track of those employees that were serving their country and those that were making sure they had the tools to do it. Robbins and Myer's had a crucial role in the war effort as it produced, fans, motors, dynamos and also a little device known as the Norden Bombsite.

Tonight when you lay your head down to go to sleep, remember those that died at Pearl Harbor, young men and women who died valiantly fighting for their life and for your freedom.  Most of them sailors, many of them burned beyond recognition, their skin sliding off like a used latex work glove as they were pulled from the petroleum laced salt water. Think about those brave souls, their families and the lives that ended this day December 07, 1941. Then roll over and give thanks to God that the alarm clock awoke the giant, you have your freedom today because of it.
